The 2A-3A-4A Regional Cross Country Meet was held on Saturday, October 22 in Waurika, and when all was said and done, eight Marietta High School Cross Country runners had qualified for the state meet.
The Lady Indians placed eighth as a team, not high enough to qualify for state as a team, but two runners, Jaden McQueen in 13th place with 14:45.04 and Maddy Torres in 17th place with 15:02.76, did finish the two-mile run placing well enough to earn the right to compete individually.
The boys’ team fared better, finishing the meet in sixth place. Leading the Indians in the 5K race were freshman Luis Garcia, in fifth place with a time of 18:40.84, and senior Wyatt Vinson in 17th place with a time of 20:17.21.
“I’m proud to be taking eight athletes to state. They earned it,” said Head Coach Tanica Anderson. “The girls came up a little bit short, but sometimes that happens. We’ve had a pretty good season and are looking forward to watching our athletes compete on Saturday.”
The state meet will be held on Saturday, October 29 at Edmond Sante Fe High School, with the Indians set to run at 2:15 p.m.
