Marietta Public Schools Food Service Director Amanda Bova has announced that the school cafeteria will be celebrating National School Breakfast Week March 7 through 11.
National School Breakfast Week celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. This year’s theme, “Take Off with School Breakfast,” reminds that a healthy school breakfast helps ensure students’ academic success in school so they can “take off” and reach their goals.
To celebrate, Bova plans to have a superhero backdrop with masks and capes available for photo opportunities during the week. Additionally, there will be special menu options throughout the week, and the cafeteria workers – and anyone else who wants to – will be dressed in their superhero best on Wednesday. Bova will also be distributing coloring sheets and superhero storylines to elementary classes to help them get involved.
Breakfast options for the week include Eggstra-ordinary scrambled eggs on Monday; Captain America Donuts on Tuesday; Kaboom! Bacon, egg, and cheese bake on Wednesday; Power up! Pancakes on Thursday; and Boom! Biscuits and gravy with a Super Smoothie on Friday.
Studies show that children who eat school breakfast are more likely to achieve at higher levels in reading and math, score higher on standardized tests, have better memory and concentration, and be more alert.
Trying to get kids off to school on busy mornings can provide a challenge for working parents to find time to squeeze in a health breakfast, so parents are reminded that Marietta Public Schools’ cafeteria can take that stress out of the morning.
Bova invites all students and teachers to join with the cafeteria staff and participate in celebrating National School Breakfast Week.
