Marietta’s Lady Indians, coached by Tory Douglass and Tanica Anderson, competed in the Madill Tournament last week, and when the dust settled, came home with some hardware.

In the first round, the Lady Indians were matched against the home standing Madill Lady Wildcats. After a tight first half that resulted in a halftime tie at 25, Marietta held Madill to only four points in the third quarter, grabbing a lead that the home team couldn’t overtake.

The Lady Indians got the win, 56-45 and advanced to the next round. Scoring was led by Regan Denham with 14 points. Toriauna Douglass and Maddy Torres had ten points apiece and Luciana Douglass scored eight. Haven Matthews and Kaylie Douglass scored five points apiece and Kyra Elison had three points on the night.

In the semi-finals, Marieta faced Sulphur’s Lady Bulldogs. The end of the first quarter found the Lady Indians ahead by one, 10-9, but in the second, the Lady Bulldogs came barking back, holding the Lady Indians to only seven points to their 17 and taking a halftime lead, 26-17.

Sulphur outscored Marietta again in the third quarter, leaving the Lady Indians with some ground to make up. With Toriauna Douglass leading the way, Marietta did just that, coming from 18 points down to squeak out a 42-40 win and a trip to the championship game.

Toriauna Douglass led scoring with 12 points. Kaylie Douglass had eight and Joley Heydon seven points, followed by Maddy Torres with six. Luciana Douglass and Kodi Durst scored three points apiece, Ashlynn Douglass finished with two points and Haven Matthews had one point.

Saturday’s final round pitted the Lady Indians against Plainview. After a close first half, Marietta was up one at halftime, 30-29. But when Marietta came out cold in the third quarter, Plainview outscored them 12-5, and Marietta was never able to regain that ground, ending up on the short end of the score 62-50 and finishing the tournament in second place.

Toriauna Douglass led the Marietta Lady Indians in scoring with 22 points. She was also named to the All-Tournament team. Kodi Durst and Maddy Torres had seven points apiece, Luciana Douglass had five points, Haven Matthews had four points, Joley Heydon had three points, and Kaylie Douglass rounded out scoring with two points.
