As the summer vacation winds down, schools across the county are winding up and getting ready for students to re-enter the classrooms. Marietta, like many districts across the state, has made some changes to their staff and is welcoming some teachers who are new to the district, others who are have been around a while but are moving to different jobs.

This year, Marietta Public Schools will employ a total of 125 people as support and certified staff members and in school administration.

Teaching in the primary’s Pre-K classrooms will be Tammy Blevins, Christina Conway, Karin Mathis, and Sheri Willis. Lacee Ballard, Kathleen Burk, Heather Cummings, and Jaime Hartman will educate the district’s kindergarten kiddos, while Jodi Barnes, Rebecca Chambers, Glenda May, and Elizabeth Spradlin will be first grade teachers. Kacie Bone, Mischelle Brown, Bre Daniel, and Desirae Rodriguez will welcome students to second grade classrooms. Hope Willis will serve as the Special Education teacher and Candy McDonald will be the site’s counselor.

In the elementary school, Tanica Anderson will be the PE teacher, Gayla Burrage will teach art, and Lawanna Reed will teach music. Serving in third grade classrooms are Amber Boatright, Aimee Burchfield, Kassie Drain, Bonnie Peterson and Jessica D. Wolfe. Fourth grade teachers for the upcoming year are Celinda Garner, Shari Hallum, Courtney Jackson and Regina McGill, while Jennifer Davis, Beth Hallum, Ailey Self, and Jade Stein will be fifth grade teachers. Maverick McClendon will be the Special Education teacher and the elementary counselor is Heather McMahon.

Middle school science teachers will be Kamiah Anderson and Jennifer Dobbins. Chris Dobbins will teach STEM classes. Marilyn Corbin and Ryan Gibbs will carry the load in the math classrooms, while Sara Gore, LeeAnn Hicks, and Andrea Snow will teach Language Arts and reading. Teaching history will be Scott Hartman and Harry Jessie. Julie Salas will teach Special Education, Andrea Snow is the reading specialist, and Alyson Stokes will be the counselor.

Teaching science in the high school will be Scott Anderson and Stephanie Miller. Kenny Barnes, Alana Mallett, and William Pryor will teach history. Allen Benson will teach computers. Lantze Blevins, Ryan Keeton, Kevin Parsons, and John Shumaker will be instructing in the math classrooms, while Tonya Bucher, Pamela Higle, and Jessica Wolfe will serve as high school English teachers. Sharon Manley will teach speech classes. Lindsey Ramon will split her time between computers and STEM classes. Jenna Phipps will be the building’s Special Education teacher and Kimberly Fraire will serve as the counselor.

A handful of teachers are shared between the middle and high schools, these including Josh Bazor in Ag/FFA, Amanda Faulkenberry in FACS, Eric Gallaway in Band, Erin Hansen in ELL, Ana McRay in Spanish, and Courteney Starsick in music.

Serving as administrators for the 2021-22 school year will be Brandi Naylor as the district’s superintendent, Adam Sherfield as high school principal, Ronald Norman as assistant high school principal, Carrie Tucker as middle school principal, Dana McMillin as elementary principal, Tammi O’Steen as assistant elementary principal and Special Education Director, and Ann Rutledge as primary principal

Alex Doby will be the athletic director. Tammy Sherfield will serve as the districts instructional coach, while Amanda Sanders and Stacy Scarbrough will be EL specialists.

Robin Mayes will serve as district’s librarian. Library assistants are Tina Sykora in the high school, Cathy Roberts in the middle school, and Shanna Baker in the elementary school.

Keeping computers and networking up and running is Technology Director Nate Jackson, with Joshua Jones serving as his assistant.

The people on the other end of the phone, and some important folks to parents are the building site secretaries. They are Michaela Sanchez in the high school, Kristi Mansfield in the middle school, Roberta Morgan in the elementary school, and Denise Balog in the primary school.

The district has several teacher assistants who offer invaluable help to teachers and students alike. They  are Erin Banta, Glenda Bennett, Ronette Hunter, and Angela Wall, Pre-K assistants; Brittany Presley, kindergarten assistant; Tory Douglass and Becky Jones, Special Education assistants; Maria Juarez, primary ELL assistant; Jasmin Salas, elementary ELL assistant; Olivia Carmona, high school ELL assistant; Lacie Kirk, Becky Thompson, and Ashleigh Wood, primary teacher assistants; and Stacey Roach, elementary Special Education assistant.

Wendy Birks will serve as the Child Nutrition Director again this year. Birks and her staff of Maria Amaya, Shawna Arthur, Danna Clifton, and Maria Salas are charged with preparing and serving meals for all the district’s students.

Also returning is the Maintenance/Transportation Director Jeral Berry. Berry’s staff includes custodians Bertha Carona, Josefina Fernandez, Maria Garcia, Rosalio Rueda, Maria D. Salas, Maria Sanchez, Yesenia Sanchez, and Dawn Williams, along with Steven Henson and Dale Peterson in maintenance.

And last, but not least, tasked with the records maintenance, state and federal program compliance, accounting, and plenty of other things are three ladies in the superintendent’s office. They are Business Office Manager Cynthia O’Connor, Encumbrance Clerk Nati Sanchez, and Activities Clerk/Treasurer Danielle Winchester.
