At last week’s Class 3A State Track Meet held in Catoosa on May 6 and 7, when the smoke cleared, two Marietta High School student athletes mounted the podium as medalists.
Senior Quincy Walker placed fifth in long jump with a mark of 20’3”.
“For the past three weeks Quincy has battled with a hip injury,” said Athletic Director Alex Doby, “so we are really happy with his efforts.”
Freshman Amanda Flores placed third in shot put with a mark of 33’ 6.5”.
“Amanda broke the school record earlier in the year,” Doby said, “so we knew that there was a good possibility she would have a good meet at state. We feel like she is going to improve as she continues in high school, so we’re expecting great things from her in the future.”
Doby was complimentary of the entire team.
“Our student athletes competed well and persevered through a lot this year,” he remarked. “Next year we’re returning all but four seniors, so we’re looking forward to a great year.”
