As schools have shifted to virtual learning, so has Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s Competitive Events. For the first time since the organization was founded in 1945, FCCLA’s Skill Demonstration Events took place completely virtually. Members from Marietta High School’s FCCLA Chapter were among students nationwide to compete in FCCLA’s Skill Demonstration Events.
Skill Demonstration Events provides opportunities for FCCLA members to demonstrate college- and career-readiness skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations. All Skill Demonstration Events are individual events. From Culinary Knife Skills, FCCLA Creed Speaking and Interpretation, Interior Design Sketch, and Interviewing Skills, FCCLA offers 20 Skill Demonstration Events which all affiliated members may take part in.
Competition results were Emily Faulkenberry, Level 1 Creed Speaking and Interpretation, 1st place; Kelsi Lawson, Level 1 Science in FCS, 1st place; Ashley Perez, Level 2 Science in FCS, 1st place; Josie Dobbins, Level 1 FCCLA Knowledge Challenge, 2nd place; Taryn Blankenship, Level 1 FCCLA Knowledge Challenge, 3rd place; Lisset Perez, Level 2 Science in FCS Challenge, 3rd Place; Vanessa Rodriguez, Level 3 Science in FCS Challenge, 3rd place; and Yesenia Salazar, Level 2 Interior Design Challenge, 3rd place.

Participating in Skill Demonstration Events equips students with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive in the 21st century workforce. Members utilize the skills learned and experiences gained through FCCLA to improve families, careers, and communities across America.
Members who scored in the top three placements of each Skill Demonstration Event will be recognized for their accomplishment during FCCLA’s Virtual Leadership Experience, December 8, 2020 through February 12, 2021.
