Marietta Public School’s administration has tentatively scheduled several upcoming events for the Class of 2020.
“We know that our seniors have missed out on a lot,” said Superintendent Brandi Naylor, “so we are tentatively rescheduling several events, along with adding something new to celebrate the Class of 2020.”
The plans begin with senior yard signs and a parade. On Thursday, May 14, school employees will be placing a yard sign for each senior printed with their picture and name on the Love County courthouse lawn. The signs will remain on display until Friday, May 15 at 3 p.m., at which time a parade of seniors and their family members will begin at North Front Street and make its way west on Main Street.
As the cars approach the courthouse lawn, the senior’s name will be called and they will get out of their car, go to the Frontier Stage, and receive their sign while their family members will remain in the vehicle. The school has arranged to have a photographer present to take photos of the event.
Those community members who wish to watch the parade are asked to park so that the parade is visible to them and then stay in their cars so that social distancing guidelines may be observed.
On June 23, the school will host a scholarship awards ceremony at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. This event will be by-invitation only, and those seniors who are involved will be contacted by June 15.
Prom has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 25 at 8 p.m. at the WinStar World Casino Convention Center. Promenade will be at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
Graduation will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. in McClain Stadium.
These plans are contingent upon the continuation of Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt’s OURS Plan, which is set to reopen the state government in phases; therefore, some or all of the events are subject to cancellation or change.
