Bucher crowned state champ
Marietta High School junior Dovan Bucher had a stellar season in speech and debate –
a season that ended with his earning the title of state champion.
Bucher, along with the rest of the MHS team, under the advisement of Alicia Harris,
painted a wide swath this season, winning qualifying tournaments in Seminole, Rush
Springs, and Comanche – to name just a few – on the way to the regional tournament
held at the end of March in Alva.
There, Bucher placed second in Monologue, qualifying him for the state tournament
held last weekend in Tulsa. At the state tournament Bucher breezed through rounds
until he was the last man standing and the 4A state champ.
In addition to winning nine individual medals this season, Bucher won an All-Star Cast
award for his performance in the OSSAA One Act Play competition for his leading role
in the production of “Gossip.”
He competed in five speech tournaments throughout the season, winning four medals in
Dramatic Duet Acting and four medals in Monologue.
“Dovan has just had an exceptional season,” said Harris. “He is a great kid and an
incredible actor, and I am so proud of him.”
