Students in Marietta High Schools speech department have won yet another

sweepstakes this season, this time at Seminole. The team competed in the Seminole

Tournament over the weekend in both the 4A and Champs divisions.

Results in the 4A division were: Kamarah Bertrand, first place, Prose; Slade Campbell,

first place, Monologue; Shawn Vasquez, first place, Humorous Interpretation; Talon

Gomez and Benito Maldonado, first place, Dramatic Duet Acting; Talon Gomez, second

place, Prose and second place, Humorous Interpretation; Xiomari Kirses and Shawn

Vasquez, second place, Dramatic Duet Acting; and Cristal Diaz, third place, Poetry.

All students in the 4A division qualified for the regional tournament, and the team won

first place in the 4A sweepstakes.

In the Champs division, Dovan Bucher won first place in monologue; Ace Austin won

first place in Humorous Interpretation; Delane Aust placed first in Dramatic

Interpretation and second in Program of Oral Interpretation; Emma Chaney won second

place in Prose; Shawn Vasquez and Benito Maldonado placed second in Humorous

Duet Acting; and Benito Maldonado was the third place winner in Prose.

The team placed third in the Champs Sweepstakes.

The team is now working toward competition in the regional speech tournament to be

held March 28 and 29 in Alva.
