Although the Marietta Lady Indians are coming off a fast pitch season that resulted in
fewer wins than losses, Coach Katelynn McCarn-Lewis is optimistic about the program
they’re working to build.
“We had some tough losses, but with the returning players we have for slow pitch, our
team looks promising going into the season,” she said. “This season, we have a good
combination of upperclassmen and younger girls who played fast pitch in the fall, and
we have really built on working as a team and the idea that everyone has a role and
responsibility.”
The team roster includes five seniors – Laney Hicks, Taryn Blankenship, Maddlin Willis,
Kenze Hartman, and Kaygan Staton – all of whom have experience on the field.
According to McCarn-Lewis, Hicks, Hartman and Staton were major offensive producers
for fast pitch in the fall and she will continue to depend on that production in the spring.
Staton and Keely Wilson will handle pitching duties. Both girls can also play other
positions, giving the team options.
“Being adaptable ensures depth in our roster for the season,” added McCarn-Lewis.
The team has set several other goals that should also help to increase the number of
ticks in the win column.
“This season a goal of ours is to work as a team while showing mental toughness to win
games,” explained McCarn-Lewis. “Showing up each day ready to play and focused on
the game at hand, working to fight and finish each game to the last out, and rallying in
the moments when we’re down will help to build character and win games.”
Although spring is hectic, with student athletes from basketball and powerlifting just
finishing their seasons, the team is eager to be out on the field, ready to play.
