Members of the Marietta FCCLA chapter attended the Get SET Conference on

December 4 in Oklahoma City. The SET in Get SET is an acronym for Speaking

Excellence Training.

The conference, presented by the Oklahoma Family, Career and Community Leaders of

America Association in conjunction with Your Next Speaker, is designed for FCCLA

members in grades eight through 12. The purpose of the training is to teach students to

enjoy the process of preparing to give their best at an FCCLA STAR Event competition

or speaking opportunity.

Marietta members who attended the FCCLA Get SET Conference were Aycee Dudley,

Karrington Staton, Alyson Muller, and Breqlynn Perryman.

“So many people are afraid of public speaking, and I found it helpful to learn ways to

deal with the nerves and become more confident about speaking,” said Staton.

The intra-curricular CareerTech Student Organization, FCCLA, is an integral part of the

Oklahoma CareerTech System and supports family and consumer sciences education

for students in grades six through adult. Oklahoma FCCLA serves over 21,000 students

in k12 schools and Career Technology Centers across the state.
