Throughout the years, the popularity and success of Marietta’s Booster Club has waxed

and waned, but current president Brittany Presley has taken the bull by the horns and

with the help of other parents, has big plans for the club’s future.

“I questioned a lot of times in years past about why can’t we do this or that,” Presley

remembered, “but I don’t just want to complain, I want to fix things.”

To that end, Presley asked some members of the school’s administration and board

members, and what she discovered was rather daunting.

“I found out that there’s a lot of red tape in the process of becoming a school-sanctioned

organization,” commented Presley. “You have to get an IRS tax ID number so you can

be recognized as a non-profit, then get put on the board agenda, and there’s so much

more. I did a lot of research.”

Presley spoke to Superintendent Brandi Naylor, who was enthusiastic about helping her

jump through all the necessary hoops.

“Mrs. Naylor was fantastic,” said Presley. “We bounced ideas off each other and she

walked me thought the process, telling me what we could and couldn’t do, and how I’d

have to appear before the school board. It was a long process.”

Presley began filling out paperwork in 2022, and several months later was finally

approved by the school board. Last year was the group’s first official year for fundraising

and sponsorship of events.

“We were able to do a lot of really cool things,” Presley insisted. “We got to honor our

special Olympics athletes at a football game. Often they’re not recognized and we

wanted to include them in athletic awards. We made them goodie bags and had their

names announced at halftime, and it was amazing.”

The club also recognized the state championship girls’ powerlifting team, hosted a

senior dinner, and hosted the All-Sports Banquet for high school athletes at the year

end. This year, the plan is to include junior high athletes.

“Last year, we were just getting our feet under us,” said Presley, “but this year we are

going to incorporate some new things, and we need all the parental involvement and

support that we can get.”

The club meets monthly for general membership meetings and hosted a meeting on

Tuesday to plan a membership drive. Presley insists that there are plenty of jobs for

anyone, and getting involved is simple.

“My youngest is going into the sixth grade,” mused Presley. “By the time he’s a senior,

I’d like to really watch this grow into something great. I want to be able to do good things

for our kids, for them to have everything they could have, and I think that there are

people out there who want to help, but don’t know how, or what to do. We want the

Booster Club to bridge that gap so we can do great things for our kids at Marietta.”
