Marietta FFA officers attend D.C. conference
Marietta FFA Chapter President Schuyler Blevins and Reporter Josie Dobbins recently
traveled to Washington D.C. for the Washington Leadership Conference. The duo,
along with 50 other Oklahoma members, left on June 9 and returned home on June 17.
During the conference, they participated in 14 different sessions intended to help them
improve not only their FFA chapters, but their community, also. They were also afforded
the opportunity to meet other FFA members from around the nation.
“One of my favorite parts about WLC was meeting new people,” said Dobbins. “I made
a new friend, Sayde, from Hooker, and we just clicked because we had so much in
common. I may not be able to see her often, but I know we will stay in touch.”
In addition to the sessions, participants were able to tour various parts of the nation’s
capital, such as Smithsonian museums, Arlington National Cemetery, and Mount
Vernon. They also had the chance to meet and speak with Oklahoma Senator James
Lankford.
“I learned so much on this trip and it ended up being one of my favorite trips I have
taken through FFA,” Blevins explained. “WLC taught me how to be a better leader and
ways I can impact my community. I am grateful for the opportunity I was given, and I
hope more members from our chapter are able to go on this trip.”
