A new league for third and fourth grade girls and boys who are interested in basketball is coming to the county.
The Love County Youth Basketball League has been formed and is seeking players, coaches and other volunteers.
“As far as I know, the area hasn’t ever had a youth basketball league before, or at least not for a long time,” said organizer Josh Drinning, head coach for the Marietta High School Lady Indians.
“I fell in love with basketball during those years,” he continued, “and I want to give other kids the opportunity to do the same thing, while learning basic skills.”
Drinning, along with co-organizers Judy Fernandez and Sara Gore have announced that signups for the new league will be held on Saturday, November 23 in the Marietta Public Schools gymnasium.
The teams will be coached by parents and games will be officiated by high school players.
The league is open to all county third and fourth grade girls and boys.
“We are just getting started and would love to have help,” said Drinning.
Signup sheets have been sent to Greenville, Thackerville and Turner Public Schools, and are also available at any of the school offices at Marietta.
