Marietta’s homecoming week for 2019 has been scheduled for the week of September 30 through October 5, culminating with the parade, coronation, and game. This year’s theme is “Marietta’s Got Game.” Plans for both school and alumni are well underway.
All groups are being encouraged to prepare their float entries and the school is hoping that the addition of more groups will bring back the traditional feel of the homecoming parade.
Game themed dress-up days are planned for students.
Monday’s game is “Candyland,” and students are invited to dress for a sweet slumber party by wearing their PJ’s to school. Tuesday will be “Operation” day, so students are asked to fake an injury. Wednesday’s game is “Life”, so students should dress for success. “Sorry” is the game for Thursday. Students should dress in their favorite “Sorry” colors (red, blue, yellow, and green). And students should wear their black and gold on Friday, which is Spirit Day.
School classes and groups will be working on floats at various spots around town and will be under the supervision of their sponsors.
Activities for alumni will begin on Thursday at 5 p.m. with float decorating at the Love County Fair Barn.
On Friday morning beginning at 9 a.m., an alumni brunch will be provided in the Marietta gym as an opportunity to visit and catch up on old memories. At 10 a.m., tours of the high school will be offered by the high school student council members.
School will be dismissed on Friday at 2 p.m. so students, faculty, and sponsors will have plenty of time to get ready for the parade, which begins at 3 p.m.
That afternoon, all alumni are invited to ride the float in the parade. Float riders are asked to meet and line up on North Front Street no later than 2:15 p.m.
Following the parade, all Indian fans are encouraged to attend the pep rally on the courthouse lawn.
That evening, a tailgate party for alumni will be held at 6 p.m. at McClain Stadium before the game, with special seating provided for alumni and spouses during the game.
Coronation ceremonies will be at 6:30 p.m.
Other activities for alumni will be a 5th quarter held after the game at The Taste and breakfast on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at City Lake. At 6 p.m. on Saturday, alumni are invited to a banquet and auction in the Marietta gym, with proceeds benefiting the Marietta Alumni Association scholarship fund.
