Marietta eighth grade percussionist Emma Chaney participated in a four-mallet marimba workshop held on the campus of East Central University in Ada on Saturday, April 15. The event was sponsored by Dr. Nicholaus Meyers, Hunter Gross, and Stephen Timperley, ECU percussion staff members.
Using the four-mallet technique, percussionists hold two mallets in each hand, allowing performers to perform more advanced literature which may include melodic lines, counter melodies, and harmonies being performed with each mallet.
Emma, the daughter of Scott and Kim Chaney, was one of only 25 students from across the state who participated in the workshop.
“We are so proud of Emma for wanting to challenge herself in this way,” said Band Director Eric Gallaway. “Starting this technique early will allow her to become a performer to be reckoned with!”
